Just before school started on 5 Jan 2009, we had our 2008 class gathering 2 days before ( i know 2008 gathering is supposed to be held on 2008 but due to unforseen circumstances, it was postponed to 2009! hehe). This time basically it was basically US organizing for 08 gathering but Cherie was the one who had the most frustrating time since she was incharge of the finance side. I mean who won't right! Hunting them down to pay in advance and hunting them for reply!!! I wonder how many sms was wasted just to bug them down! GRRRR!!

I was one of the BBQ-ers OK!!! (Cherie was the butter spreader!!)
The day started with me, fat and cherie meeting at Bedok Interchange to shop for the BBQ stuff afterwhich we proceed to the BBQ wholesale centre to get the bbq stuff. Yeah we decided to get the stuff personally instead of asking for delivery. And yeah that equals to a DEATH SENTENCE!!! Imagine 3 girls carrying the drinks, the tons of food (chicken, otah, prawns, corn etc), the 5kg of charcoal, a bag of ice, an ice box.... To make it worst, we asked the cab driver to stop us at the wrong stop! We thought the pit was near the playground, but HELL NO! To our horror it was near the first carpark!!!! The journey to the pit seems like an endless journey! Making countless of stops along the way to rest!! My arms were lifeless jellies by the time i reached the pit!! It was a miracle that we actually made it to the pit A-L-I-V-E! We are definitely Superhumans man!!! And just to add on, my arms and back were ACHING for the next couple of days! It was still aching when school started!!! But with the people turning up and the fun and madness we had, the pain was definitely worth it! But there is no way in hell that im going to go through this HORROR experience again!!! Hahaha!

Look at me counting the $$$$$!!!

Just before the crowd started coming in, we had a Belated 21st Birthday celebration for our youngest dearest classmate Nadifa!!! Lighting up the candle was such a pain cause the wind keeps blowing it off countless of time!!! ERGH!! Hope you enjoy the cake and the present ya Nad!!

The Burfday Girl!

Burfday Girl & US

This week is already the 3rd week of school. Dang! And next week, IMMEDIATELY after Chinese New Year, i have a test! There goes the long weekends ay. For this semester, my timetable is quite packed and with lessons starting very early in the morning (except fri) and ending very late! But i am not really complaining cause at least i managed to get the electives of my choice. So for this semester, im taking 4 cores, of which 3 are year 1 module and 1 is a year 2 module (since i got 1 subject exemption) and 3 electives. I kind of overloaded my this semester, taking 24AUs altogether.
Im definitely enjoying the electives im taking especially "Language Puzzle: The Study of Human Language". So what is it about?
"This course provides an introduction to the scientific study of human languages. This is also referred to as Linguistics. The course answers fundamental questions such as these: How does language work? How does language shape our thoughts and behaviour? Do men and women speak differently? Can language be used to solve crimes? The study of human language is divided into several areas which include language sounds and patterns, the relationship between words, sentence structure and word meaning. This linguistic knowledge is then applied in various disciplines ranging from psychology and sociology to education and computer science."
-Extracted from NTU website
Its an interesting course indeed. We watched videos for every lesson and just to name some:
"Wild Child"-> The story of a girl who was deprive of the outside world since young and was only discovered when she was 13. At that age, she did not know how to COMMUNICATE and she cant even walk properly. And her life ended in such a sad way too.
"Koko & Michael"-> This video is about 2 brilliant gorillas who can use sign language to communicate with humans! There were sad parts to it especially for Michael, when he was asked about his mother. He replied in sign language "sad" "loud noise" "crying" and it was assumed that his mother was killed by poachers. When he answered, the expression on his face was just so... sad.

Putting aside school, Nad showed me this video on "PCR" (Polymerase Chain Reaction). Its a Biorad production video and its brilliant and funny i tell you! Just google it at youtube "PCR Song" to watch a bunch of Scientist singing! Below are the lyrics to the song! Funny i tell you!! So science people are not so GEEKY after all! HAHA!
The PCR Song by Scientists for Better PCR

There was a time when to amplify DNA,
You had to grow tons and tons of tiny cells.
(Oooh) Then along came a guy named Dr. Kary Mullis,
Said you can amplify in vitro just as well.
Just mix your template with a buffer and some primers,
Nucleotides and polymerases too.
Denaturing, annealing, and extending,
Well it’s amazing what heating and cooling and heating will do.
[Chorus]
PCR when you need to detect mutation (detect mutation)
PCR when you need to recombine (recombine)
PCR when you need to find out who the daddy is (who’s your daddy?)
PCR when you need to solve a crime (solve a crime)[x2]
There is more updates, but lets save it for later okies. And just before i end off, try and solve the puzzle below okies! Have fun!!
